The Ghost of Garretstown

I am interested in magic, nature, fantasy and the extraordinary :) Well, the weird back-pack girl in the dark woods would be quite the sight to see on your late night stroll. My inspiration comes from dark songs and my favourite creepy stories. My projects have three stages: design, creation and performance. My favourite parts of the process are choosing which materials to use and planning where and when to take the photos. I love wearing my costumes and getting into character :)

What our judges had to say
about Phoenix's amazing work!

'Phoenix, what a brilliant and brave work of art. There is so much to your work; the costume, the performance, the photograph and the spooky atmosphere. I adore it! Super congratulations and I look forward to seeing much more of your brilliant art!'

Amanda Coogan, Visual Artist

'I've seen lots of cosplay in my many years of comic conventions and I love the spirit and wonder of this one combined with the photo. It feels like Ghibli come to life, where there could be wonder around every corner that you discover.'

Will Sliney, Comic Book Artist

8–11 Runners-Up

When Words Take Flight

Seraphina (11), Wicklow

I find it extraordinary how a book can take you from a gloomy room of bookshelves to falling down a rabbit hole or a land where houses are painted in pastels and leaves are bright pink!

2nd Place Winner

Eggstraordinary Car of the Future

Raylan (8), Cork

I am inspired by The Treehouse series of books by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton. They show ingenuity in designing their treehouse levels, and their characters are incredibly silly. Taking an ordinary egg which I get from our chickens every day, it becomes not just a flying fried egg but actually an extraordinary car powered by rocket boosters. Using clay lets me create with my hands, using tools to make a realistic car, showing my creativity, allowing my imagination to take the wheel.
