  • When did you know you wanted art to be your job?
    +

I have always loved art and design, I was very creative as a child. During my education, I developed this further, my best subjects were art and music. I knew I wanted to work as an artist pursuing a career that allowed me to explore my creativity and talent. It was not until I got the opportunity to study Textile & Surface Design at NCAD that I developed my artistic skills and found my passion for textiles. I then realized that I could design artwork as my 'real job.’ I am creatively passionate about what I do, it does not feel like 'a job' to me...

  • Did you attend art college and if so, what was the experience like?
    +

I studied Textile & Surface Design at NCAD, where I specialised my degree in Woven & Constructed Print Textiles. I loved art college it was so much fun and a fantastic experience. • What is the job of art (or of artists?)
    +

Art is about making a statement and connecting with people’s emotions. It is personal and at the same time, universal. It has the power to take cultural practices from where they are from and then transport and integrate them into different parts of the world without losing their identity. Artists spend their time observing and questioning the world around them. They observe colour, texture, contrast, and emotion. They create art to share their ideas and visions with others.

  • What is art to you?
    +

For me, art has always played some part in my life. I have always been connected to it in one way or another. Art is expressing your unique power to communicate with one and other in the world.

  • Why is art important?
    +

Art is very important in the world because it is an essential ingredient to empowering the hearts of people, communities, storytelling, and passing on the tradition. It inspires us, makes us think and question things. Art creates criticism, curiosity, excitement, and a better understanding of each other.

  • Do you have a favourite type of art?
    +

Textiles are extremely interesting to understand how their made, how they feel and how they look

    +

Express who you are, follow your dreams and keep doing what you love. Do not be afraid of criticism and learn it's good to mistakes. Be proud of your work!!

  • What advice would you give your teenage self?
    +

Be yourself, discover your true self and do not listen to others who may not believe in you.

  • Is it important to think about where our textiles and fashion comes from?
    +

Yes, it is very important to know where our textiles and fashion comes from. We need to investigate the often - devastating effects of fashion & textiles production on the earth’s flora, fauna, and environment. We need to create textiles and fashion that are both beautiful and responsible but also encourage us all to consider our own choices more carefully and sustainably. In an ideal world, the future of fashion is slow, sustainable, and circular. A far better and more planet - friendly fashion and textiles industry. As a designer, it is my mission to create beautiful textiles that do not destroy our planet and promote slow fashion awareness.
