Grandad’s Studio

Grandad’s Studio

My grandad is a printmaker and he’s been making prints for over 70 years and he’s very good at it. I like watching him make art along with my brother and sister.

His art studio is a fun place to hang out, as there are lots of interesting things there. My grandad's job was to teach people to do art and now he is teaching us. He teaches us about printmaking and today we are doing some lithography. Lithography is a form of printing process using acid and stone. The stones we’re using are old slabs of limestone and they can be used over and over again.

It’s really fun to do printing; it’s always a bit of a mystery in how it will turn out. You never know what the result will be but it’s like a reward after all the hard work you do.

Art can be anything, it is something you can create, and you can create what you like and what you desire. You can express your feelings in your painting or drawings. You can also make changes to your art; it doesn’t have to be so perfect, just like life, it doesn’t always have to be perfect.

It is up to you to decide what art is and nobody can judge your creations.
