Horse Play

Much of my life has been spent working with horses. ‘Horseplay’ captures the power and dynamism of this animal rearing, front hooves in the air. Made over several months during the second Covid lockdown, it represents for me that desperate urge to break free from restraints and is a symbol of freedom, a protest. These were ‘extraordinary’ times, and I wanted to create an extraordinary piece, using materials and methods I’d never tried before. Inspired by nature over lockdown, I used woven willow, collected from fields, natural fibres, corroded copper, and plaster.
